Tom’s experience combines architecture, engineering, management systems, and doctoral studies in advanced health care planning, information technology and statistics. Tom focus has been health care master planning, conceptual design, development of innovative and cost effective architecture. He is a recognized innovator in developing planning models, cost models, implementation models, methodologies, programming, analytics for healthcare institutions to help set a logical long-term planning framework for cost effective facilities.


Tom had a senior role planning and designing 1.3 million SF. McMaster University Medical Center. Tom subsequentially led planning and design of 1.1 million SF Detroit Receiving Hospital and Wayne State University Health Center in Detroit, Michigan.


Tom led the Detroit Medical Center master plan team evaluating and forecasting future configuration of 5 Hospitals and 50 Ambulatory Care Facilities comprising 5 million square feet. He planned and designed major reconfiguration of the Emergency Department Level One Trauma Center at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He integrated Hutzel Women’s Hospital into the DMC central campus, another precedent setting Detroit project where planning design and approvals were successfully achieved in 3 months. The project was designed, constructed, and occupied in 9 months, a national center of excellence for women’s health.


Tom developed master planning for UAB, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Beaumont Trenton Hospital, Karmanos Cancer Center, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital, Otsego Memorial Hospital, South Haven Health Systems, potential expansion of Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe and many other urban and rural hospitals. He developed the Behavioral Health Master Plan for Henry Ford Health System. He planned, design and developed the new Cancer and Endoscopy Center for Memorial Hospital in Owosso, new Surgery Centers for Garden City Hospital in Garden City, and Straith Hospital for Special Surgery in Southfield and many other projects.He also followed with design development of many projects.
